Case Study
ParkChirp
Smart Parking Intelligence
Devinity provided full-stack and IoT engineers to build ParkChirp's connected parking management system — a platform that turns dumb parking lots into intelligent, revenue-optimized facilities with real-time sensor data, AI pricing, and automated access control.
The Challenge
Urban parking is broken
Drivers in major cities waste an average of 20 minutes circling blocks looking for parking — burning fuel, generating emissions, and adding congestion to already-strained streets. Meanwhile, parking operators sit on valuable real estate with no visibility into real-time occupancy, no tools to optimize pricing, and no way to offer the seamless digital experience modern drivers expect.
ParkChirp set out to solve both sides of the problem: give drivers instant visibility into available spots and give operators the intelligence tools to maximize revenue per space. But building that platform meant connecting thousands of IoT sensors across hundreds of locations, processing millions of data points in real time, and delivering a consumer-grade mobile experience on top of it all.
ParkChirp needed experienced engineers who could architect a scalable IoT data pipeline, build ML-powered pricing models, and ship polished customer-facing applications — fast. They brought in Devinity.
Engagement Overview
Platform Capabilities
What we built
Real-Time Availability Engine
IoT sensor data aggregation pipeline processing millions of events per day to display live spot availability across 500+ parking locations. Sensors communicate via MQTT to AWS IoT Core, where Lambda functions normalize data and push updates to a Redis pub/sub layer — giving drivers and operators sub-second visibility into every open spot in the network.
AI Dynamic Pricing
Machine learning models that adjust parking rates in real time based on demand curves, local events, time-of-day patterns, weather conditions, and historical occupancy data. The pricing engine evaluates dozens of signals per location every fifteen minutes, optimizing revenue for operators while keeping prices fair for drivers during off-peak hours.
Automated Access Control
License plate recognition cameras, QR code scanners, and contactless payment gates integrated into a unified entry/exit system. Vehicles with active reservations are recognized and admitted automatically — no tickets, no attendants. The system handles edge cases like misreads, expired sessions, and overstays with configurable escalation rules per location.
Customer Mobile App
React-based cross-platform application where drivers search for available spots by location or destination, compare prices, reserve in advance, and navigate turn-by-turn to their assigned space. Digital payments via Stripe handle one-tap checkout, and push notifications alert users before their session expires or if a cheaper nearby option opens up.
Operator Dashboard
Comprehensive management console for parking operators to monitor all locations from a single pane of glass. Real-time revenue analytics, occupancy heatmaps overlaid on facility maps, sensor health monitoring with automated maintenance alerts, and configurable pricing rule editors — everything an operator needs to manage a multi-location portfolio efficiently.
Predictive Occupancy
TensorFlow models trained on years of historical occupancy data, event calendars, transit schedules, and seasonal trends to forecast parking demand hours and days in advance. Operators use these forecasts for staffing decisions, capacity planning, and proactive pricing adjustments — turning reactive lot management into data-driven strategy.

Our Role
Embedded engineers, real ownership
Devinity embedded Python and React engineers on a long-term contract to build ParkChirp's IoT platform and customer-facing applications. Our team architected the real-time sensor data pipeline, AI pricing engine, and operator dashboard from the ground up — working as a seamless extension of ParkChirp's internal team.
Our engineers designed the MQTT-based communication layer that connects thousands of IoT sensors to AWS IoT Core, built the FastAPI backend that processes and serves availability data at scale, and developed the TensorFlow models that power both dynamic pricing and predictive occupancy forecasting. On the front end, our React engineers built the consumer mobile app and the operator dashboard — handling everything from Mapbox integration and real-time data visualization to Stripe payment flows.
This was staff augmentation done right: Devinity engineers participated in ParkChirp's standups, sprint planning, and architecture reviews. We didn't just write code — we helped shape the product roadmap and made technical decisions that scaled the platform from a pilot in a handful of lots to a network of 500+ managed locations.
