Why this is worth asking now
Custom software costs a fraction of what it did.
Most of what custom software used to cost was the cost of writing it — engineers producing code by hand, at a rate that set the price of everything else. That part of the work has compressed sharply, and it happened over about three years rather than gradually.
A system we would have quoted at $60,000 in 2019 is $12,000 to $18,000 today. The scope did not shrink. Two engineers with current tooling cover ground that used to take six, and we have priced that through rather than keeping the difference.

- Is this a chatbot?
- No. Devin asks a fixed number of multiple-choice questions written for your sector, then produces a written blueprint. There is nothing to converse with and no way for it to wander off the subject.
- How accurate are the prices?
- They are ranges taken from work of the same shape we have already delivered, not quotes. A focused tool is $5k – $12k, a core system $12k – $28k, a platform $28k – $60k. Your figure is fixed in writing after a scoping call.
- Why is custom software cheaper than it used to be?
- Because the slowest part of building it — writing the code — has compressed. Two engineers with current tooling produce what took six a few years ago. A system quoted at $60,000 in 2019 is $12,000 to $18,000 now.
- Do I have to give you my email to see the result?
- No. The blueprint appears on screen when it is ready. Emailing it to yourself is optional and it is the only point at which we ask for contact details.
- What if the recommendation is wrong?
- Tell us on the scoping call. We would rather correct it in forty-five minutes than build the wrong thing. We also say no to builds we do not think will pay for themselves.
- Can you build this if we already have systems in place?
- Usually that is the situation. Most of what we build connects to software a business already runs rather than replacing it, because replacing a working system is rarely the cheapest way to fix the problem with it.
